Why Napa and Sonoma are burning again

In this SF Chronicle article, “Napa and Sonoma are burning again. Here’s why scorched areas can remain vulnerable,” by Kellie Hwang one Sept. 28, we learn how and why wildfires can occur again. The “ecological aftermath” of a wildfire can actually make areas more vulnerable so it is really important to have an aftermath fire prevention program to prevent this as well as ongoing fire prevention programs for homes. This is a fascinating read which gives us a much deeper understanding to how we need to learn to live with wildfires. “To accomplish wildfire resilience, … we must not only improve the fire resistance of homes and other structures, but manage forests and vegetation around areas where people interface with nature, including communities, parks and trails.”
