Wildfire Ambassador Assessments
In 2025, Ambassadors completed 538 home assessments—more than double last year’s total. Wildfire Ambassador Assessments are free, non-enforcement home evaluations conducted by trained MOFD community volunteers. Ambassadors help homeowners identify potential vulnerabilities they may have overlooked while preparing for wildfire season. Their recommendations support both safer properties and compliance with the MOFD Fire Code.
Home Hardening Grant Program
MOFD offered its Home Hardening Grant Program for the third consecutive year, providing support for gutter guards, vent mesh, and reimbursement for ember-resistant vents—all designed to reduce the risk of ember intrusion during a wildfire.
In 2025:
• 485 residents received gutter guards
• 193 picked up vent mesh
• 20 qualified for and received ember-resistant vent reimbursement
Chipper Program
The Chipper Program remains a popular service from MOFD. This free program helps residents reduce vegetation and fire fuels by chipping material that is too large for green waste bins but not large enough for commercial chipping services.
In 2025, the Chipper Program served over 310 individual residences, as well as multiple neighborhoods and Firewise communities in Moraga, Canyon, Campolindo, The Bluffs, and Bollinger Canyon.
Education & Outreach
Education plays a key role in community wildfire preparedness. In partnership with the volunteer Ambassadors, MOFD participated in more than 15 outreach events in 2025, including 2 Open Houses, a Wildfire Safety Fair, Community Events, National Night Out, and Firewise neighborhood gatherings. Staff and volunteers connected with residents to share fire prevention strategies, fuel-mitigation guidance, and emergency-preparedness resources.
