Why CERT? Why Now?

Are you and your family prepared for a community wide disaster?

Wildfires are a serious threat but so are EARTHQUAKES

Do you know how to safely search a building for victims of an earthquake?

Do you know how to provide lifesaving medical care?

Many homeowners are not aware of hazards around the home that can cause fire or add to possible damage during an earthquake. Learn to spot home safety hazards and protect you, your family, and neighbors by attending a CERT class. Learn how to respond following disaster to find, save, and treat victims and to help in the recovery process.

There are class series available from Certified Instructors of Lamorinda’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). These instructors have been through an intense FEMA based instructor’s course and are ready to help you become better prepared for a disaster.

Learn, in detail, disaster preparedness, how to work with your neighbors as a team and help your community during an emergency. The nine evening course covers many subjects:

  • disaster preparedness

  • fire safety

  • medical operations

  • light search and rescue techniques

  • CERT organizational skills

  • disaster psychology

  • terrorism awareness

  • radio communications

  • pet preparedness and response

  • participation in a practice exercise

Classes are conducted at various venues around Lamorinda. The 2026 Fall class series begins on Tuesday, September 15th at the Lafayette Community Center in Lafayette.
