Request a Free Home Fire-Safety Assessment

In 2021, the Moraga-Orinda Fire District (MOFD) created the Community Wildfire Safety Ambassador program. This free education and outreach program can help residents within the MOFD boundaries understand how to comply with the defensible space requirements on their property.

MOFD annually trains volunteers to help neighbors learn how to prepare their homes for wildfire by reviewing the annual MOFD Exterior Wildfire Hazard Abatement Requirements. These free home assessments are non-enforcement related; volunteer Ambassadors do NOT share their observations with the MOFD staff.

Resident volunteers (Ambassadors) will perform exterior home assessments in Moraga, Orinda, Bollinger and Canyon.
The assessment is free and usually takes about 45 minutes to complete depending on questions you may have. The Ambassadors have been trained to point out things that residents might have overlooked while preparing for the upcoming wildfire season.

The Ambassadors will not need to go inside your home or into your backyard, but they will leave you with a hard copy of the abatement requirements that will help you keep your property safe from wildfire. Please note that the resident is encouraged to keep notes of the assessment discussion – it is the resident’s responsibility to comply with the MOFD Fire Code.
